How to Read Good Sam Directory Ratings

The three-number rating that accompanies each campground listing in the directory gives readers an at-a-glance assessment of a campground's amenities, cleanliness and environment.

How to read the Good Sam Rating 10/10 /10.
All three ratings categories are measured on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best.Less than 1 percent of parks or campgrounds receive the coveted 10 / 10 / 10 rating, which indicates superior facilities that are well maintained, clean, well-appointed restrooms and a highly appealing appearance.Campgrounds are inspected annually by dedicated RVers like you.

Completeness of facilities

10 / 10 / 10
The first campground rating evaluates completeness and quality of facilities. In this category we rate interior roads, sites, registration area, hookups, recreation, swimming, security, laundry, store and building maintenance.

Cleanliness and physical characteristics of restrooms and showers

10 / 10 / 10
The second rating category concerns the cleanliness and physical characteristics of toilets, walls, showers, sinks/counters/mirrors and floor. If a park achieves a full point in each of the above, it receives a star (), indicating exceptionally clean restrooms.

Also rated are physical characteristics of restrooms, including interior construction, adequate supplies/odor free, adequate number of facilities, exterior appearance and location in relation to park spaces, and interior appearance.

Visual Appeal and Environmental Quality

10 / 10 / 10

This category addresses the park's setting and site layout, function and identification of signage, overall exterior building maintenance, noise, trash disposal, litter and debris around the grounds and sites, and appearance of grounds, sites and entrance area.

Didn't see all of the campground because we came in late and left fairly early, but choose your parking spot wisely for the type and size of RV you have, We used a back-in site, close to the entrance, that was gravel covered and mostly level. WiFi was great as we used our Chromecast and watched several shows on Netflix. Staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't use restrooms, pool or playground so I can't comment on them, Not a bad place to stay if you pick the right parking spot.

We enjoyed our stay here. We did notice a pretty nasty smell in parts on the campground but it didn't bother us all the time. We really liked the location, close enough to I25 and Santa Fe but far enough to have peace and quiet. Loved the hiking trail at the back of the campground.

We booked our stay here pretty much out of desperation. Smell was horrible. Roads are awful. Didn't use the restroom so can't comment. Wifi doesn't work consistently, tv reception and channels were iffy as well.We didn't have much trouble with the back in space, but I can see why other reviewers with big rigs don't recommend it. Keep looking

NICE FOLKS. PARK A LITTLE RUSTIC. EVERYTHING CLEAN.
ROADS ROUGH...NEEDS SOME GRADING AND INFILL. NOT EASY TO PULL A BIG RIG THROUGH. WI FI VERY WEAK...REALLY NEEDS TO BE UPGRADED. THIS IS A BIG PARK OF THE RV LIFE NOW AND ALL RV PARKS NEED TO DO BETTER IN THIS AREA.

We stayed in this park for a week in a 35 foot fifth wheel at the end of August 2016. I will give an overall rating of 4 with challenges (I was close to a 3). The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the park is very clean and quiet (at least while we we're here), and is located reasonably close to the downtown plaza. However, it is extremely tight in navigating your vehicles into their parking places and then in and out as you stay here. There are lots of ruts in all the roads throughout the park and all roads are all dirt. The sites are not very level. My main issue is tent camping sites intermingle throughout the park right next to RV sites and this even includes group tent camping sites next to your RV. If I return, I would request a RV site away from all tent camping, there are a few of these. I imagine during the summer months this could be a loudness issue.

Showed up a day early. Staff was very nice and helpful. We had a pull-thru for a 28 ft class C towing a jeep. Tight space on rutted slope, some work leveling. Men's restroom shower no hot water in one stall had to move to another. Park showed age as the reason for low rating.

This is the first time in several days I have had totally reliable wifi. And I can find no basis for the complaints in some of the previous reviews about an odor problem. It was about a 20 minute drive today into Santa Fe along back roads, so I didn't even have to get back on I-25. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this campground.

Worst parking, unhooking and access to utilities experience ever. We have stayed in over 50 parks across U.S. and have never seen such an un-level and downsloped (front to back) sites. Access to your site is met with terrible ruts, about 1 ft deep. Utility hookups are at non-standard locations. To reach pedestal, I had to pull forward, but then my hitch was about 1 ft below the TT. So I had to backup and borrow an extension 30 amp cable. When I un-hooked, my truck was at such a severe negative grade below my TT, I wasn't sure I could hook-up again. I didn't have enough blocks to raise my hitch to level the TT. If I had pulled forward to level, the rig next to me would be blocked as two sites share a single exit. To make our stay worse, we were about 4 ft from next rig, and no room for us to use the picnic table, and it had to be positioned directly over their sewer hookups. Bathhouse and restrooms okay. They recycled which was a plus along with a walking trail. Bottom Line: worst laid out, arranged and accessible park I've ever seen.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Easy drive to old town Santa Fe. Campground dirt roads are in bad shape, better unhitch your toad before proceeding to campsite. Many of the sites are not level. No grass in dog run, all gravel.

We stayed a month and found plenty of interesting things to do in the Santa Fe / Taos areas. The campground is on the side of a hill; the sites at the bottom along the highway are flat and easily negotiable. The sites farther up the hill among the trees can be challenging for longer rigs to maneuver around, and the trees have the battle scars to prove it. The roads/sites on the hilly sections need some grading/leveling. Campground management was very nice and helpful. Restrooms were fine. There is a small pool, but it was not open yet during our stay. WIFI and cable. Laundry seemed expensive. Our main advice: if your have a longer rig (ours is 36' 5th wheel), ask for a site down near the highway. We would return.

This may have been the nicest Park I've visited. It was quiet, attractive, easy to reach and the staff was friendly and helpful. We got a full hook-up pull through for $40/night before discount. The sites were separated by small trees which made it pretty, private and provided a great wind block! Also noticed a nice playground by the office. We took advantage of the propane fill station. Did not visit the bath house or laundry.

Stayed for 3 nights while touring Santa Fe during the day. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. The park and the sites were very tight for a big rig. The roads were rough and the facilities very basic. The laundry was old equipment but they charged $3.00 per washer. Park has potential but facility and grounds need a lot of TLC

The laundry is only open from 8:00am - 6:00pm with last wash load at 4:30. I want to go sightseeing during the day and do laundry in the evening. Most RV parks have laundries that you can drive up to and park and are open until 10:00 pm, if not 24/7.
