Stopped here on the way to our winter location in Texas. We arrived at 1:00pm with reservations, but the office was closed. A note on the door gave three phone numbers to try. Got ahold of the owner, said he lived in town and was taking care of his kids. Took 30mins for him to arrive. The office was dark and dank and offered nothing else for sale. There was one pool table and a pop machine. After registering we were told to pick a site and the owner left again.
We walked the campground and immediately noticed standing water, everywhere. What camp sites weren't covered by water were so saturated that it was like walking on a sponge. The owner had explained before leaving that this was runoff from neighboring farms. I believe that it is ground water percolating upwards as I didn't see the swales indicating running water. Either way it is not good. Farmland contains insecticides, herbicides, and nutrients all making a toxic stew.
We found a dry site.
This park desperately needed maintenance and active attention. Weeds around the perimeter were high and junk and broken items littered the grounds. Poles along the highway for banners were empty as were the taller flagpoles at the office also bare. There is a barn, stables, and a corral for horses. A "Bobcat" is used for cleaning but no provisions for hauling the horse refuse away seemed to exist. Piles of wet hay and horse droppings were stacked near the barn.
There was really no where nice to walk in the park. It was so wet, and some of the permanent residents made you want to stay clear. The park owner apparently owns some trailers on site and rents them out. These were not long-term employed. Many permanent trailers were way back surrounded by tall weeds. People were living in them. One trailer I thought was abandoned with broken windows and without power, later three men arrived who lived in it in the dark. We stayed indoors and kept our lights on.
That evening the owner returned with some of his buddies and hung out at the office till late at night. We never saw a family. The park was poorly lit with many burned out lights. I tried to use the bathrooms, but the first toilet I test flushed overflowed all over. I got out.
This park is neglected in every facet and we saw no one who was interested in making it better. We'll not be back.
