Rockport, Texas
By Ron Souza
The city of Rockport is located just south of the Live Oak Peninsula in Aransas County, Texas and is the County Seat. The oldest living Live Oak tree in the state is a dominating attraction on the peninsula and has been proclaimed “The Big Tree”. The two small cities of Rockport and Fulton are frequently referred to as “Rockport-Fulton” which incorporates a broader range of attractions and activities for both residents and visitors.
The community is quite proud of its Maritime Museum which was constructed to celebrate the area’s on-going relationship with the sea. The Museum features exhibits and artifacts that show many aspects of how the Gulf of Mexico has had a major impact on the growth and existence of local business and the area’s recreational development.
RV Travel
to Rockport will provide a unique opportunity to visit the Fulton Mansion State Historical Site. The Victorian Mansion is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. A seven year renovation project was completed in 1983 when the Mansion opened its doors for the first time as a historic home and museum. You can discover how life was lived during the late 1800s as you explore the parlor, dining room, library, bedrooms and sitting room. This Fulton was one of the first structures in the state to have indoor plumbing with hot and cold water, gas lighting and central heating.
As a preferred tourist destination, Rockport is very popular because of its soft sand beach and its excellent sports fishing. The city’s beachfront park has been nationally acclaimed as one of our Nation’s Cleanest Beaches. All the water activities you would want while staying in any beach resort community are available in Rockport and fisherman will be thrilled to find some of the best deep sea action available anywhere on the Gulf of Mexico.
Rockport hosts a number of annual festivals and expositions including the Rockport Seafair, the Fiesta De La Playa (beach festival), and a local Wine Festival. A Good Sam Club RV Park with great

The Seafair is a three-day event with its highlight being a parade through the downtown area with bands and floats and other entertaining individuals like clowns and jugglers. There are day and night concerts featuring a wide assortment of musical entertainment from Rock to Jazz to Gospel. There is a Gumbo Cook-off, a cooking demonstration tent, Crab Races and the hilarious Cardboard Boat Races. There is also a very popular carnival with a thrilling fun house and a Ferris wheel along with many other carnival rides and attractions.
When planning your
