1966

First Camping World store opens inside Beech Bend Park after founder David Garvin successfully launches business selling RV parts and supplies from the back of a pickup truck in the park's campground. Corporate offices are located in an old farmhouse nearby. A simple black-and-white catalog is printed and mailed to customer addresses collected in the store and at the campground.

1966

Trail-R-News, a small RV lifestyle publication, receives a letter suggesting that the magazine provide bumper stickers enouraging RVers to assist each other on the road. The magazine's publisher conceives the idea of the Good Sam Club.

1967

Hi-Way Herald is launched, providing news for members of the Good Sam Club. Today, club news is available in Trailer Life and MotorHome magazines.

1968

Trail-R-News and the Good Sam Club are acquired by publisher Art Rouse. The magazine is renamed Trailer Life and is later joined by sister publications MotorHome magazine and the RV Buyers Guide.

The Ute Salt Shakers from West Valley, Utah, becomes the first Good Sam chapter. Today, chapters are in almost every state and province.

1969

Good Sam launches the first comprehensive RV insurance program. Today, Good Sam provides a wide choice of insurance products.

Mail order catalog becomes full color, featuring more pages and more products for camping and RVing.

1972

Good Sam publishes the Good Sam Club's 1972 Recreational Vehicle Owners Directory, which lists RV parks and businesses that offer discounts.

1974

The first Samboree started at Devonshire Downs, North Ridge, CA and ended at Lion Country Safari offering an old-fashioned 4th of July picnic, fireworks, seminars and a giant Caraventure that stretched 10 miles along the freeway.

1973-1979

New Camping World store with four service bays and offices opens on Beech Bend Road, a short distance from the park. First store outside Bowling Green opens in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. First Florida store opens in Kissimmee.

1980

The Good Sam Club adopted Dogs for the Deaf as its official charity.

1980-1989

14 more Camping World Stores open in six states including the first one in California.

The first Action Line letter is sent to Good Sam. Since then, Good Sam's Action Line program has netted more than $1 million for customers seeking to resolve disputes with RV companies.

Good Sam launches Emergency Road Service to help stranded RVers. Over its 32-year history, Roadside Assistance has aided more than 2 million RV travelers.

A Mobile RV SuperCenter provided products and services at off-site events, utilizing a team of Camping World crewmembers and service technicians.

New warehouse facility and corporate office built on Three Springs Road in Bowling Green, KY, adjacent to warehouse.

The President's Club is launched, offering members savings of at least 10% off every item sold by Camping World, installation discounts, special members-only savings event, product testing and more.

Camping World's nationwide network of retail stores and service centers expands by another 17 locations in 13 states.

At Camping World, professional technicians take a new approach to their work with the introduction of the comprehensive RV ProCare Service Program.

GoodSamClub.com launches. Today, the site helps member plan trips, find events, connect with other members, locate Good Sam Parks and so much more.

Camping World joins the Affinity Group family of outdoor, travel and RV lifestyle enterprises.

The inaugural Rally opens its gates in Gillette, Wyoming.
