A Taste of Arkansas

Total mileage/Average drive time
132 miles, 2 hours, 12 minutes

Arkansas is the Natural State and what's more natural than good, down-home cooking. This trip will have you sighing in foodie bliss, from the steaks and BBQ to burgers and chicken, proving that Arkansas can dish it up.

1. Hot Springs - Starting Point
Spice up your trip with a visit to McClard's Bar-B-Q, a regional favorite and considered a "must eat" stop across the state. The classic American diner-like atmosphere pulls you in, and the amazing bar-b-q sauce, a blend of flavor and fire, will make your mouth water. McClard's hickory-smokes and prepares over 7,000 pounds of beef, pork and ribs each week, serving up crusty-on-the-outside, fall-away-tender-on-the-inside, rich, smoky bar-b-q with a kick. Hot-diggity!

Select from high-quality T-bones, porterhouses and sirloins, ordered by the pound, for sharing at your table, and all are fresh-cut and cooked to perfection, just the way you ordered. For a legendary lunch try Doe's homemade hot tamales served with chili—exquisite! Don't let the laid-back atmosphere fool you. Over the years, Doe's has been the hangout for big-time politicians and celebrities. But any local will tell you the the food is the real star here.

You'll be impressed with the made-to-order, large, tasty burgers, plentiful fries and milkshakes so thick you need a spoon and a straw, but save room for dessert; their handmade fried pies are the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Feltner's Whatta-Burger is an iconic, hometown favorite that serves up delicious food in copious amounts at reasonable prices. The staff dishes out hospitality as well.
