Destination Disney
All the September issue of Highways did was make me want to go to Fort Wilderness and Disney World.
David Driver, Fredericksburg, Virginia
If you plan on going to Disney World in your RV, be sure to stay at Fort Wilderness. And if you travel with a dog, be sure to ask for a pet loop. Fort Wilderness has it all—pool, arcade, playground, clean bathrooms, laundry room and a big dog park. Best of all, you’re on Disney property and a Disney Resort guest. We loved it.

I’m completely against sugar-coating and giving the “Disney version” of things. But, dang it, we had a blast in Walt Disney World during the summer. It was my brother Jaime’s birthday, so we brought him along for some RV fun. Fort Wilderness was amazing. But you really should reserve a golf cart ahead of your stay. It’s as expensive as renting a regular car, but you aren’t supposed to drive your car around the grounds.

Happy Wanderers
We always look forward to Joe and Vicki Kieva’s column. In the September issue, they addressed trip pacing. We’d like to share our own ideas.
We’re retired and have no need to hurry. We like to leave the RV park at about 10 a.m., drive a couple of hours at 55 mph and stop for lunch. Then we drive a couple more hours and settle down for the night. That gets us into the park about 3 p.m., giving us plenty of time to get hooked up and look around. When we’ve seen what we want to see, we take off again.
We don’t like to drive more than 200 miles a day. By driving conservatively, we don’t get tired and we enjoy RVing the way it should be enjoyed.
Win Alme, Casa Grande, Arizona
The Kievas’ September column, “Wander Wisely,” was excellent, but one item should have been included. When you travel, always carry the latest issue of Highways, open at the Club Events section. If you’re near a state Samboree, be sure to attend. Not only is it an enjoyable experience, but other Good Sam members can tell you about the best things to see and do and where to camp in their state.

Easy Riders
Here we are with our new and wonderful DownTube folding bikes from the Highways digital edition drawing. We feel so lucky and fortunate to have won them. They are handy and light, and the color is great. Thanks to you all.

Good Sam Park Perks
We recently camped at North Shore RV Resort, a Good Sam Park in Onalaska, Texas. After plugging into the 50-amp receptacle, I noticed one air conditioner and the microwave didn’t work. After sending out for a mobile repairman, I reported our problem to Amy, the front-office staffer.
The next day, Amy presented me with a check for 100 percent reimbursement for the cost. I was shocked and delighted. If you’re ever in the area, there are no better establishments to deal with. We’ll certainly return.
Steve and Aubara Fotiades, Tiki Island, Texas
We recently stayed at EZ Daze RV Park, a Good Sam Park in Southhaven, Missisippi. It’s a beautiful park and a clean facility. It’s got everything one needs: friendly owners and close proximity to Grace Land and Memphis. The outlet mall’s even closer. We recommend it highly.

Growing in the Garden State
Thank you for the great article on the Haulin Highlanders, the New Jersey Good Sam chapter profiled in the August issue. Unfortunately, the picture you ran didn’t do justice to the group’s growth and size. Here’s a recent photo from the New Jersey Disney Memories Samboree in June.

Everything Nice
I made a batch of Bob Blumer’s Sugar and Spice Pecans recently and took them to a Ventura County Rose Society potluck. They were such a hit that several people asked for the recipe.
Patricia Ruzella, Ventura, California
With the holidays just around the corner, members may want to revisit the recipe for these tasty pecan treats, published in the December 2008 Camp Cuisine column. To find the recipe on our website, go to www.goodsamclub.com/highways/digitaledition and click on the December 2008 issue or go to www.goodsamclub.com/highways and click on Previous Issues, then scroll down to December 2008. Fire Safety 101
During a trip, we were awakened at 2 a.m. by the smoke alarm. We discovered smoke pouring out of our microwave and filling up the living area. After unplugging the microwave and opening all windows and vents, we removed the appliance and placed it outside.
The next day, we searched for that brand of microwave online in hope of finding a replacement. We discovered that there had been a recall on this particular model for a problem that could cause the microwave to spontaneously start, resulting in smoke or fire. We found a different brand and installed it.
This all points out the importance of testing smoke alarms and batteries. There’s a good chance that we may never have awakened if our smoke alarm and battery hadn’t bee in good condition.
